No. 20 Wisconsin Badgers (0-0) vs. No.3 Alabama Crimson Tide (0-0)

Alabama is loaded with talent, yet again, and you can tell how deep and stacked they are, as they are the 3rd ranked team in the nation and they lost their starting QB, 2nd leading rusher, and lead WR. They had the 12th ranked defense in the nation last season and that unit should be great again this season.

Wisconsin had one of the best defenses in the nation last season, ranking 4th overall, and had one of the best RB’’s in the nation in Melvin Gordon. However, he is gone, the Badgers have a new head coach in Paul Chryst, and there are question marks on the offensive line, WR, and inside LB positions.

Last season Alabama won the SEC, but was upset losing to Ohio State in the semifinals of the first College Football Playoff.

Last season Alabama was 5-9 ATS with an O/U record of 7-6 and Wisconsin was 6-8 ATS with an O/U record of 8-5-1.

Since Nick Saban took over at Alabama the Tide are 5-2 facing teams from the Big 10.

Wisconsin returns senior QB Joel Stave, who passed for 1,350 yards and 9 TD last season, but had 10 INT. He has a decent WR corps, but even without Gordon the Badgers will be a run-first team. Corey Clement has big shoes to fill at the RB position, but he may another superstar in the making and in limited duty last season he still rushed for 949 yards with 9 TD and averaged 6.5 yards per carry.

The Alabama run defense lost some key players, but they are still a great unit that ranked 2nd in the nation last season. However, one of the reasons they lost to Ohio State in the playoffs last season was because they gave up 281 rushing yards. Containing Clement will be key for them, as Stave cannot carry the Badgers with his arm.

Jacob Coker is the new Alabama QB and he has a gun and even with star WR Amari Cooper in the NFL he has a lot of talent on the outside, which is especially speedy. The Badgers return both of their starting CB’s and 6’6” Tanner McEvoy, who may have a breakout season after limited action last season.

Derrick Henry rushed for 990 yards averaging 5.8 yards per carry last season. He is a 242-pound bruiser that plays behind a strong offensive line. One worry for Wisconsin is that they lost some key players to their run defense and up front they are not a big bunch and that may hurt them in this game.

Free NCAAF Pick

Wisconsin never seems to miss a beat with their running game but after a big loss at that position we believe it will take a few games to back on track. Although it’s a big spread we are willing to lay the points on the home side in week 1.
