Washington Nationals vs. Philadelphia Phillies Total Pick

Time: 7:05 PM EST Friday May 2, 2014 CSN

Location: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Philadelphia Phillies host the Washington Nationals in a NL East match up.

In their last games: The Nationals beat the Houston Astros 7-0 and the Phillies lost to the New York Mets 6-1 on Tuesday and had Wednesday’s game postponed due to rain.

In their win over the Astros Washington starter Jordan Zimmerman went 6 innings and did not give up an earned run and the Nationals scored 4 runs in the 4th inning.

In their loss to the Mets on Tuesday New York only managed 1 run on 5 hits.

This is the first game between these 2 division rivals this season.

Baseball dimeline betting is the only way to go if you want to profit betting MLB games. Why risk $135 to win $100 when you can risk $130? Why get paid $125 for a winner when a winning bet on the very same game can give you $130?

Here are some additional handicapping angles to ponder:

The Nationals’ offense ranks 6th in the Majors in runs scored.

In the last 7 games between these 2 teams in Philadelphia the total has gone Under 6 times.

The Nationals have won 4 of their last 5 games facing the Phillies.

In 3 starts against the Phillies last season Stephen Strasburg went 2-0 while allowing only 1 earned run and 11 hits with 29 strikeouts over 23 innings.

Cliff Lee is 1-2 with a 4.00 ERA in his last 4 games against the Nationals

Total Pick:

No disputing the scheduled starters abilities, but the back numbers in this set up suggest that it may not be the pitching duel expected by the linesmakers. The Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg has been horrendous on the road this season allowing 13 hits and 10 earned runs in 10 innings. His numbers against the Phillies are not thrilling with Revere, Gwynn, Ruiz, Byrd and Gravis hitting him for average in limited at bats. Philadelphia starter Cliff Lee is off to a good start this season and while he is 0-2 at home he has pitched well with a 2.40 earned run average in 2 starts. Lee’s success against the Nationals’ batters is a different story with most of the expected line up tearing it up against him. It also doesn’t hurt that Washington is hitting .329 versus left handers this season.
Take OVER 6.5 -120.
