No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs (3-0) vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (3-0)
TCU is the 3rd ranked team in the nation and they are an 8.5-point road favorite facing Texas Tech this Saturday and are seeking their 12th straight win. Can either team play defense in this game? TCU ranks 4th in the nation in total offense while Texas Tech ranks 5th.
After getting a scare in a 6-point win over Minnesota in their season opener TC has 2 blowout wins in a row even though they came facing the less than stellar teams of Stephen F. Austin and SMU.
Texas Tech may have shown they are for real in their last game, as they beat an Arkansas squad that was ranked to start the season after 2 easy blowout wins in their first 2 games.
Can the Red Raiders forget about last season when they lost ton the road to TCU 82-27? Big question for a Tech squad that ranks 112th in the nation in total defense.
In their last games Texas Tech beat Arkansas 35-24 and TCU beat SMU 56-37.
This season TCU is 1-2 ATS with an O/U record of 2-1 and Texas Tech is 2-0-1 ATS with an O/U record of 2-1.
TCU is 2-0 at home on the season and Texas Tech is 1-0 on the road.
Texas Tech will have their hands full on defense trying to contain TCU QB Trevor Boykin, who is a Heisman candidate and in the first 3 games of the season has passed for nearly 1,000 yards with 10 TD and 3 INT and is the Horned Frogs 2nd leading rusher. He had 7 TD passes in last season’s rout of the Red Raiders and in that game Tech gave up 480 passing yards and 305 rushing yards.
TCU RB Aaron Green rushed for 164 yards in the win over SMU averaging 7.8 yards per carry, so Boykin is not the only guy the Red Raiders will have to contain.
Tech has their issues on defense and that has been the case for the last few seasons. They may have to light up the scoreboard to win this game behind QB Patrick Mahomes (1,029 yards 9 TD 3 TD), RB DeAndre Washington (287 yards 1 TD), and a WR corps that has 4 players with at least 179 receiving yards led by Jakeem Grant (21 rec 287 yards 1 TD). TCY ranks 47th in the nation in total defense and they did give up 37 points in their last game facing SMU.
TCU is 14-4 ATS in their last 18 games overall, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss, and they have an Over record or 5-2 in their last 7 road games.
Texas Tech is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 home games, 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall, and they have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.
The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 games between these 2 teams.

Texas Tech really surprised us with their 11 point win over Arkansas as a 9.5 point road dog! Their defense leaves something to be desired allowing 414 or more yards in all three games this season. That’s not say that the Horned Frogs is anything special after letting SMU put up 37 points on 508 total yards. This game has OVER written all over it if we can get a line in the 70 range, but the better value may be with the home side. TCU beat a s0-so Minnesota team by just 6 in their only road game this season and in our opinion it’s a big step up to the Red Raiders.
