This weekend in college football offers up this big Pac 12 north match-up with Stanford taking on Oregon. The Ducks are favored by 12.5 points according to the bookmakers but this doesn’t mean anything to the Cardinals who have upset the Ducks in each of the past two years. Stanford will be looking for the big upset again in Eugene.
After losing to Arizona State two weeks ago last week the Cardinal came back with a vengeance, easily beating Oregon State 38 – 14 covering the 12 point spread. The Cardinal put up 438 yards of offence and their defense was strong registering 6 sacks and holding Oregon State to just 12 yards rushing. Stanford has been struggling on the offensive side of the ball ranking 84th in the country but their defense ranks 5th against the run allowing a mere 91 yards per game.
The Ducks are definitely not the well oiled machine they were last year but they are still looking for the conference title this year. After a routing victory over Cal covering as a 17 point road favorite they may have their hands full with the Cardinal defense. The Ducks gave up 28 points in the first half of the game against the Bears then held them to only 13 in the second half, managing to pull away to get the betting line cover.
In their last games Oregon beat California 59-41 and Stanford beat Oregon State 38-14.
This season Oregon is 4-1 at home and Stanford is 1-2 on the road.

Sure Stanford has had Oregon’s number knocking off the Ducks as double digit underdogs in back to back seasons. I don’t believe that will be the case this week. The Cardinal defense has not been as successful against a top flight offense losing to USC, Notre Dame and Arizona State and will now face arguably the toughest challenge in Eugene. I can’t say that I feel all warm inside backing a public side, but I think that they’re the right play.
