Pittsburgh Panthers (1-0) vs. Boston College Eagles (1-0)
Pitt was dominant in their opening game playing a cream puff, but now get down to business with an early season ACC match up where they are the road betting favorite facing Boston College. While Pitt is not ranked the schedule is really on their side only facing one team all season that is currently in the top 25 and that is #23 North Carolina.
Boston College also easily won their season opener and now has a tall task facing Pitt and their solid rushing attack. While the Panthers play an easy schedule BC does not, as after Pitt they face ranked USC as well as Clemson and the nation’s current top ranked team in Florida State.
This is the first ever ACC meeting between these 2 teams with Pitt moving to the conference last season.
In their last games Pittsburgh beat Delaware 62-0 and Boston College beat UMASS 30-7.
This season Pitt is 1-0 ATS with an O/U record of 1-0 and Boston College is 1-0 ATS and has a O/U record of 1-0.
To say that Pitt dominated Delaware would be an understatement, as the Panthers had 501 total yards while the Blue Hens only had 57. RB James Conner rushed for 153 yards and TD and QB Chad Voytik completed 12 of 15 passes for 92 yards and 2 TD in his first start for Pitt. In the win over UMASS the Eagles only gave up 55 rushing yards, but did give up 147 passing yards.
One of the key playmakers for the Panthers is Tyler Boyd, who caught a TD pass against Delaware and last season he set Pitt records for freshman receptions and receiving yards. He left the Delaware game with a dislocated finger and the Eagles would be more than happy to see him on the sidelines.
Boston College got off to a slow start in the win over UMASS only leading 6-0 at the half, but then they poured it on in the 2nd half. Overall, the Eagles had 338 rushing yards and 173 passing yards.
The key matchup in this ACC contest may be the Pitt run defense, which held Delaware to 26 rushing yards, facing the BC duel threat QB Tyler Murphy, who had a decent passing game last week, but did have an INT, but rushed for 118 yards averaging 9.1 yards per carry. If the Panthers can bottle him up, especially on the ground, they should win this game and move to 2-0 on the young season.
Pitt is 2-3 ATS in their last 5 games, 2-3 ATS in their last 5 road games, and they have an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.
Boston College is 7-4 ATS in their last 11 games, 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games, and has an Over record of 6-1 in their last 7 games.

I remember the early bowl game that Pittsburgh played against Bowling Green last season where the Panthers dominated both sides of the line. I believe we’ll see that on Friday night as the Panthers roll in this game.
