Our Selection : Many still think of the Patriots as a passing team. That’s not true in recent seasons. In 2012 the Patriots did finish 4th in passing but also finished 7th in rushing offense. This season New England ranks 18th in passing offense and 9th in rushing offense. Some of the change in offensive philosophy has been made because of the lack of weapons in the passing game. But our thoughts are that the weak pass protection requires a balanced attack for Brady to survive.
Here are some stats to ponder. In the 2012 regular season the Patriots went 12-4. In 4 game that regular season New England did not manage to get 100 or more rushing yards. All four of those games were losses. In 2013 regular season New England is 7-2. They have failed to reach 100 yards on the ground in 3 games. They lost 2 of those 3 games and many will say that they were very fortunate to win the other.
Tonight they face the No. 3 rushing defense in the league with 82 yards per game allowed. The Panthers have allowed only two teams to rush over 100 yards with the 49ers and Bills both getting over that number.
Of course we have to keep in mind that Carolina may be a little flat after their huge road win last week over San Francisco and the so called genius (Did he get that name before spygate?) has had an extra week to prepare for the game.
