The Semi Finals of the NIT will finish up with No. 1 Old Dominion taking on No. 2 Stanford and the winner of this clash will face either Temple or Miami in the Championship Final. Old Dominion ranks 10th in the nation allowing just 56.8 points per game. The Monarch started the NIT with really solid defense allowing just 56 and 49 points to Charleston Southern and Illinois State respectively. Their quarter final match-up against Murray State things didn’t quite go as planned for the Monarch Defense as the Racers managed 69 points against many of them from the free throw line most of which were from 23 personal fouls by the Monarchs. Luck for Old Dominion only 50% of those possible points found the target.
Stanford finished the season ranked 56th in the nation scoring an average of 72.3 points per game and this is what have kept them going through the tournament. The offensive will have to click in this game if the Cardinals have any chance against the mighty defense of Old Dominion.

I like the Monarchs here. They knocked off two underrated teams in Murray State and Illinois State to make it to the semis of the NIT and have some statistical data to support their superior seasonal play. Sure the Cardinal come from the better conference and yes Stanford did have a couple of close games against some of the top Pac-12 teams in Oregon and Arizona, but those came at home. They’re a different team as a visitor or at neutral site with a record of just 6-10 on the season. The Monarchs have the better RPI (.5743 versus .5632), have a better record versus top 100 RPI ranked teams going 7-2 versus Stanford’s 5-9 and is definitely worthy of spread bet in this spot.
