I thought about taking the points and backing the Fighting Irish, but my confidence waned as I thought about how easily Kentucky is extending the margins. I do think that ND may be their toughest test of the season but they haven’t played anything near the bottom feeders of the NCAA and have won by more than this game’s 11.5 points in 12 of their last 13 games. So, that put me on to the total. I think the odds maker has this line out of whack after WVU could manage only 39 points against them. I was on the under in that game and I’m certainly a believer in the Kentucky defense, but they have yet to face a team that shots like Notre Dame. The Irish were on fire against the Shockers sinking 55.6% of their shots from the field and I think that wouldn’t need a repeat of that to hit in the mid 60’s here. The Wildcats can play slow ball but I don’t think they take that approach against the sharp shooting ND. Kentucky has put up 72 points or greater in 10 of their last 14 with three of the four times they were held to fewer coming against top 27 scoring defenses. In those three games they scored an average of 6.5 points over their opponent’s seasonal average and with Notre Dame allowing 65.7 PPG a duplication of that feat would put them above the scoring threshold I believe I need here.
