NBA Prediction – San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Clipper Betting Pick
- Updated: February 18, 2015
The 34-19 San Antonio Spurs head into the Staples Center on February 19 to take on the 35-19 Los Angeles Clippers; tip off time is 10:30PM EST.
Point Spread: Clippers -2.5
Over/Under Total: 203
In their last game the Spurs played the Detroit Pistons as the 6.5 point road favorite winning 104-87 covering the posted game line. The win was their second in a row having previously gone into Indiana as a 5-point road favorite getting the win in a closely contested 95-93 game victory but failing to get the point spread cover. San Antonio has won 4 of their last 5 games losing only to Toronto as a -1.5 favorite at the Air Canada Center 87-82 making up one of the three ATS losses they have suffered in their last five games.. The Spurs have had a strong year straight up but are only 23-28-2 against the spread putting their backers in the red.
Los Angeles is on a 2-game winning streak after 3-game losing run that saw them drop games to Oklahoma City, Toronto and Cleveland. In their latest the Clippers had an easy go of it at home in a 110-95 routing of Houston easily covering the 3-point spread assigned by the bookmakers. The spread cover was their second straight after getting the money in a surprisingly easy 115-98 win at Dallas where they didn’t need the 8 points that they were allotted by the Mavericks. The Clippers are 35-19 SU on the season while only covering the point spread in 22 of those games.
In the last 10 times these two teams have faced off the Spurs hold a 6-4 edge while bettors have seen the point spread numbers even at 5 covers a piece. In their meeting on January 31 of this year the Clippers beat the Spurs in a 105-85 crushing the San Antonio -5 betting line by 25 points! The total in this series has a significant trend to the over as of late with six of the last eight games going over the closing line.
San Antonio is averaging 100 points per game while allowing their opponents 96.7 PPG. On the flip side the Clippers are averaging 106.7 points per game while allowing only 100.7. The Spurs are more successful at the charity stripe but the Clippers have the edge in the FG shooting. Both are shooting well outside the arc with the Clippers holding a small advantage shooting 37.1 to 36.4 and making 9.7 to 8.4 per game.

Blake Griffin F Out Indefinitely (elbow)
San Antonio 4
Los Angeles 9
Free ATS Pick
We believe that the San Antonio Spurs will be the more focused team here after the break. They were embarrassed 105-85 in their last visit to the Staples Center with the Clippers’ Blake Griffin exploding for 31 points. Griffin is now on the IR after elbow surgery and while Los Angeles has done well in his absence winning two of three, we feel that the Spurs will get the money for the 5th time in last 6 meetings since the start of 2014.
