Last season the Chiefs had a great turnaround making the playoffs, but they played a weak schedule. However, that is not the case this season, as they not only are big underdogs facing the Broncos in Denver, but in 3 of their next 4 games they face the Patriots, 49ers, and Chargers. They looked less than impressive on both sides of the ball in their opening loss and they will be in a big 0-2 hole is they fall to the Broncos.
The Broncos won their season opener behind a strong start from their offense. However, while they were solid against the run in their first game against the Colts their secondary was torched giving up 354 passing yards.
Last season at home the Broncos beat the Chiefs 27-17.
In their last games the Broncos beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-24 and the Chiefs lost to the Tennessee Titans 26-10.
The Chiefs are 0-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 0-1 and the Broncos are 0-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-0.
Peyton Manning had a solid game against the Colts passing for 269 yards with 3 TD and 0 INT. Even without the suspended Wes Welker and the departed Erik Decker Manning still has a solid WR corps and in the Indy game TE Julius Thomas had over 100 receiving yards.
Last season in the 2 games facing the Chiefs manning passed for 323 yards and 403 yards. The Chiefs lost 2 starters on D in their opener against the Titans and their run defense struggled in the game. However, Denver’s Montee Ball did not have a good first game with only 67 yards against the Colts averaging 2.9 yards per carry. In the last game facing the Chiefs Ball had 117 rushing yards.
Alex Smith wants to forget about the Titans game where he threw 3 picks and only 1 TD. He has a less than stellar WR corps, but at least will face a Denver pass defense that could not contain Andrew Luck last week.
One key player in this game is Kansas City RB Jamaal Charles, who was great last season and averaged nearly 5 yards per carry facing the Broncos. In the opener the team did not feed him the ball enough, as he only had 7 carries for 19 yards and 4 receptions for 15 yards. Expect that to change in this game, as he has to play well for the Chiefs to pull out the win.
The Chiefs are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU loss of more than 14 points, and they have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 road games.
The Broncos e 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games, 9-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record, and they have an Over record of 28-11-1 in their last 40 home games.
In the last 7 games between these 2 teams the Under record is 5-1-1.
The Broncos are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games against the Chiefs.

We weren’t impressed with the Broncos letting the Colts back into the game after racing out to a 24 point lead. The Colts had a ton of issues on the offensive line and were still able to manage 24 points of their own getting the cover in the 31-24 loss. The Chiefs have OL issues as well and will need some time to get comfortable, but as Indianapolis showed last week that may not be an issue. The Chiefs also have the advantage of having a solid ground attack, which is something the Colts do not. Yes Kansas City did not look good last week, but laying nearly two touchdowns to a division rival and with a big look ahead game on the schedule next week is not the position we will be taking. It’s an ugly pick, but the road dog is the play here.
