Houston Texans (3-3) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3)
The Texans got of to a solid 2-0 start to the season, but they have lost 3 of their last 4 games including their last 2. They are in need of a win to keep pace with the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South, but are the 3-point betting underdog on the road this Monday night.
The Steelers are starting a 3-game home stand where they are 6-2 in their last 8 games. However, they already lost at home this season to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and they are coming off a bad loss to the Cleveland Browns. While Pittsburgh is in the basement of the AFC North they are still in the division hunt at 3-3.
In their last games the Texans lost to the Indianapolis Colts 33-28 and the Steelers lost to the Cleveland Browns 31-10.
The Texans are 4-2 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 3-3 and the Steelers are 2-4 and they have an Over/Under record of 3-3.
This season the Steelers are 1-1 at home and the Texans are 1-2 on the road.
Houston may get #1 pick LB Jadeveon Clowney back for this game and he and J.J. Watt, who has 4 sacks and leads the league with 20 QB hits, will be needed in the pass rush to aid a pass defense that only ranks 28th in the league and was shredded last week by the Colts.
Ben Roethlisberger has a decent WR corps and he has to play better than in the loss to Cleveland where he only completed 50% of his passes and had his 3-game streak with no INT snapped. The main player the Houston secondary has to deal with is WR Antonio Brown, who is, by far, Big Ben’s main target and ranks 2nd in the league in receiving yards.
Le’Veon Bell ranks 2nd in the league in rushing yards per game and he was decent in the Browns’ loss, but the Steelers were down big early and had to air it out to attempt a comeback. Bell will be facing a Houston run defense that ranks 21st in the league.
The Pittsburgh defense ranks in the middle of the pack in both run and pass defense, but what is worrisome is that they really struggled against the run in the Cleveland loss giving up 158 rushing yards. They will get a big dose of Adrian Foster, who ranks 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards and has rushed for over 100 yards in 2 straight games.
Ryan Fitzpatrick has not looked good at QB for the Texans this season, but he does have a good WR duo in Andre Brown and DeAndre Hopkins. In the last 2 games he has 1 TD and 1 INT and for the season has as many interceptions (6) as TD’s (6).
The Texans are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall, 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game, and they have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 games after a loss.
The Steelers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game and they have an Over record of 5-1 in their last 6 home games.
Free Point Spread Pick
The Steelers are 1-1 straight up and 0-2 against the point spread at home this season with a narrow win over Cleveland and a late collapse against the lowly Bucs. They take on a Houston team that has lost 3 of their last 4 games and should have probably lost the other. Pittsburgh did get run on by the Browns and Ravens but both of those teams have superior offensive line play. The Texans are 1-2 on the road beating only the Raiders and holding a lead (7-3) for only 2:41 in total in the other two games against the Giants and Cowboys.
