Green Bay Packers (0-0) vs. Seattle Seahawks (0-0)
The Seahawks are the defending Super Bowl champions and the NFL season opens up with them hosting Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Last season Rodgers missed significant time, but the Pack narrowly made the playoffs even though he was less than 100%. He is healthy and has looked great in the pre-season and has a tall task facing Seattle and their great secondary.
Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch are back for the Seahawks, but the strength of the team is still the defense. However, while the Packers made some solid moves in the off-season their defense is still a work in progress, which ranked 24th against the pass and 25th against the run last season.
In their last pre-season games the Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 34-17 and the Seahawks lost to the Oakland Raiders.
The pre-season really does not matter much, but the Packers were 3-1 and the Seahawks were 2-2.
Last season the Seahawks were 10-6 ATS and the Pacers were 7-9 ATS.
Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman both got big money deals in the off-season and these guys lead the Seattle secondary. While they also brought in Michael Bennett, who should improve a solid pass rush they did lose some players for a defense that may have been the best in the league last season.
The Seattle defense will have their hands full facing Rodgers and his great WR corps of Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson and RB Eddie Lacy, who rushed for 1,178 yards last season. One key aspect of this game is protecting Rodgers in the pocket and the Green Bay offensive line may be better this season with the return of Bryan Bulaga, who tore his ACL last season. If Rodgers can stay off his butt and he can avoid the INT then the Packers have a shot in this game.
Julius Peppers was the big off-season addition for the Green Bay defense, but he struggled against the run last season. The run defense for the Packers has to be a concern in this game facing the workhorse in Lynch, who rushed for over 1,250 yards with 12 TD last season.
The Packers and their pass rush have to get to Wilson, but that is not easy facing such a mobile QB. Still, the Seahawks have a less than stellar WR corps and Golden Tate bolted in the off-season.
The Packers will be playing in the hostile environment of Seattle, which really uses the 12th man as a big advantage. Rodgers has to start the game off well and take the crowd out.
The Packers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and they have an Over record of 8-2 in their last 10 road games.
The Seahawks are 38-18-1 ATS in their last 57 home games, 20-7 ATS in their last 27 vs. NFC, and they have an Under record of 5-0 in their last 5 home games.
The home team is 3-1-2 ATS in the last 6 games between these teams.

The Seahawks first team offense appeared to be in mid-season form in the preseason scoring points at will against their opponent’s No. 1 defensive units. That said I believe that both teams will want to play keep away from the other team offense leading to plenty of clock eating runs.
