Justin Masterson looked like the pitcher of 2013 with a 3 hit 7 inning shutout of the Red Sox in his latest. He threw a lot of pitches in that outing striking out 10 and walking 4 which has me thinking that a few calls going the other way would have painted a completely different pitching line. He has shown less velocity in his pitches this season so I’m going to need to see him string together a few good starts before I think he has turned it around. Same goes for Joe Saunders who was awful last season playing in pitcher friendly Safeco Field. He had a poor season opener against Tampa Bay allowing 4 earned runs in 3 2/3 innings and was sent down. The Rangers injuries had them desperate for a starter so back comes Saunders and he’s responded with 11 innings of 2-run ball. He did get tagged for 10 hits over 6 innings in his latest and was in trouble from the get go but managed to escape with the 2 runs allowed. A repeat of that outing may not have the same result against the Indians who have been having no difficulty putting up runs as of late. The number may appear high to some, but both teams are on over trends with Cleveland on a 5 of 7 run and Texas having 8 of their last 9 go over the total. Take Over 9.5 .
