Our Selection : The Bearcats are just not the same this season. They’re 5-2 on the season beating Purdue (1-6), Crushed by Illinois (3-4), beat Northwestern State (Div 1-AA), Miami Ohio (0-8), lost to South Florida (2-5), beat Temple (1-7) and beat Connecticut (0-7). That certainly isn’t something that would put a scare into any team except for the cellar dwellers of DIV 1-A. Note that the only teams they faced with more than 1 win on the season they lost to. Keep in mind that Cincinnati has only 1-3 on the road beating only lowly Miami Ohio 14-0.
If you think by glancing at Memphis 1-5 record that they are a team that should be considered in the same category as the majority of the Bearcats sad sack opponents. You’d be wrong. The Tigers’ strength of schedule has been more challenging by a large margin. Games against Duke 6-2, Central Florida 6-1 and Houston 6-1 are teams far superior to anything Cincinnati has faced in 2013. In fact you could argue that this season to date that Cincinnati has had the weakest strength of schedule in Div 1-A.
The key here we believe will be the Memphis defense. The Bearcats scored 17 vs. Illinois and 20 versus South Florida in their two losses on the season and have scored a total of 51 points in the 3 games for an average of 17 points per game. The Tigers rank No. 7th in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game so we think that they’ll be able to handle Jordan Luallen, Hosey Williams and the rest of the backs. We also have heard rumors about the health of Bradon Kay who is supposed to start, but is nursing an assortment of injuries.
WE like the Memphis Tigers +3 and you may want to toss a few bucks down on the moneyline in a game we’re calling for an outright Memphis victory.
