- Updated: May 29, 2014
The Tigers have the biggest division lead in baseball and have the lowest odds to win the AL Pennant at Bovada Sportsbook, followed by the A’s, who have the best record in the league.
The Tigers have been solid all season and their offense ranks 8th in the Majors in runs scored. They are led by reigning MVP Miguel Cabrera, whose power numbers are a bit down, but ranks in the top 5 in the AL in battling average and RBI. The pitching staff only ranks 14th in team ERA, but they still have the best 1-2 punch in the AL in Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer.
The A’s are using the same formula they have for years, as they simply keep winning with a solid team that lacks any big stars. They lead the AL West and they rank 2nd in the Majors in both runs and team ERA. Sonny Gray is a solid young pitcher that leads the AL in ERA. However, the team is recently slumping and now only has a 1.5 game lead over the Angels in the division.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are in first place in the tough AL East and the main reason is their dynamic offense, which ranks 4th in runs scored. However, However, Toronto does still offer some betting value with their earlier pitching struggles have kept their bandwagon from overflowing.
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are in 2nd place in the AL West only 1.5 games back of the Oakland A’s. They are playing well as of late and Albert Pujols is healthy and ranks 4th in the AL in runs and 12th in RBI. He and Mike Trout lead an offense that ranks 5th in runs scored and the pitching has been decent ranking 12th in team ERA. However, they could use another starting pitcher in the rotation.
New York Yankees
The Yankees are 2-game back of the Blue Jays in the AL East and while Masahiro Tanaka has been great ranking in the top 3 in AL in both wins and ERA the pitching only ranks 21st in team ERA. The offense ranks 12th in runs scored and they miss Robinson Cano and his big bat.
Boston Red Sox
The Red So still have decent betting odds to repeat as AL champions, but they are in the basement of the AL East and have lost 10 straight. After having a great offense last season they only rank 19th this season in runs scored and their pitching only ranks 17th in team ERA.
The Rangers have really been decimated by injuries this season and off-season acquisition Prince Fielder is out for the season with a neck injury. Yu Darvish is having another great season, but he needs help and is the Ace of a staff that only ranks 26th in team ERA.
The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays are at +1600 to win the AL, but can they make it out of the AL East? The Orioles have a winning record, but their pitching has really struggled this season and the Rays have a record of under .500, but are starting to heat up. Tampa Bay does not rank in the top 15 in the Majors in runs or team ERA.
